What is a Power Plate machine?

Power Plate® equipment uses the principles of Acceleration Training™ to stimulate the body's natural response to vibration. In order to achieve greater physical strength, we need to subject our bodies to forces greater that those which we experience under the influence of normal gravity.

The vibrations emitted from the plate transmit waves of energy throughout the body, activating muscle contractions to between 25 and 50 times per second – an acceleration that increases muscle force without putting undue stress on ligaments or joints. A short Power Plate® training session provides the ultimate workout. Using a Power Plate® machine contributes to overall performance enhancement in sessions as short as 15 minutes a day, 3 times a week.

How does Acceleration Training work?

Acceleration Training (also referred to as Vibration Training™) is a method of training on a machine that is vibrating. Users position themselves on the vibrating platform while the plate on the base of the unit sends vibrations to the muscles in the body.

When different parts of the body are put in contact with the platform in various exercise positions, vibrations are transferred to the working muscles. By holding a pose for up to 60 seconds at a time, multiple muscle groups are activated simultaneously to stretch tone or strengthen.

By exercising in this way, you can stimulate different muscle groups far more effectively than standard resistance training and great results can be achieved in just three, 15 minute sessions a week.

Acceleration Training is similar to traditional weights training; however the muscles are stimulated without putting undue stress on the ligaments and joints, minimising the risk of injury. Acceleration Training is low impact and gentle, enabling anyone regardless of their age or fitness level to benefit without putting strain on joints or other parts of the body.

How does the Power Plate® machine differ to other similar products?

Power Plate® machines operate in a range between 25 and 50 Hertz. The Power Plate® machine features a vibrating plate and handlebars for stability. Is the Power Plate® machine safe for everyone?

The effects of vibration training on the human body have been researched for many years. No negative effects have been found at all, providing the Power Plate® machine is used according to our instructions and advice, and under proper supervision.

You should consult a physician before beginning any exercise program, including a program that includes the use of a Power Plate® machine.

If you have any known medical condition or any physical limitation on your ability to exercise, Power Plate Australia strongly recommends that you seek the advice of a physician before using the Power Plate® machine.

Can the elderly train on the Power Plate® machine?

Yes. One of the first applications of vibration training was for combating bone mineral loss. Research has shown a clear connection between muscle strength and bone density, and the machine's vibrations stimulate the bone tissue.

In addition the strengthening effect as well as increased balance and coordination, circulation, and increased mobility make training on a Power Plate® machine the perfect active aging exercise regime. All of the results that can be achieved by young people are attainable for the elderly as well.
